You may have notice that the site was down over the weekend with an error message. Our database server went down and unfortunately since I was traveling, I didn't notice the problem until today. If this downtime, effected any of your trades let me know and I will fix the problem. Thanks for your support and understanding.

I've been working on some changes over the past couple days that should speed up the site specifically when searching and browsing for books. I'd like to get a general feel from everyone about what they think of the current speed of the site. There are more things I could do to make pages load faster, but if no one has any major complaints I'd like to move on to adding more features.
Poll: How is the speed of the site?

Today I released a new look for the site. I hope that the new design is easier to use, looks more professional and loads faster. Please let me know if you have any feedback or problems.

It’s been almost 18 months since I launched Chango Books with the goal of allowing members around the world to trade their old books into new ones for free. In that time, we have signed up more than 300 members who have listed over 2,600 books and traded almost 300 times. I’m pleased with the success of the site and hope that we can continue this organic growth.
Over the past couple months, I’ve been working on a number improvements to the site including a redesign to make it easier and faster to use. I’m close to finishing the changes and would have liked to update the site soon, but I will be traveling for the next several weeks and won’t be able to carefully monitor the site if anything goes wrong during the updates.
So, the good news is that you can expect some big improvements to Chango Books, but the bad news is that I won’t be able to release them until November. While I’m gone, I will be able to occasionally check the site while, but I won’t be able to respond to issues as quickly as normal. Thank you for your understanding, happy trading and see everyone when I get back!

Recently I have noticed some items that are not books such as audio cassetes, calendars, magazines etc. are being listed for trade. The goal of Chango Books is to allow members to trade books and I don't want our inventory to become cluttered with non-book items.
I've changed the site so that only paperback, hardcover, mass market paperback and library bound books can be added as inventory. From now, other types of items cannot be added as inventory. Books with other bindings that were added before this change, will remain in member's inventory and can be requested normally. Over 98% of the books added to the site so far already have one of these bindings, so I don't think this change will effect most of our members.

I recently upgraded some of the software that powers Chango Books. This shouldn't have any visible effect on our members, but I did make lots of changes and it's possible that I missed something. If you see any problems or something is not working as you expect, please let me know!

I have released an experimental feature to allow members to import books into their wishlist by pasting a list of ISBN numbers. A link to the new feature is available on the right side of the page when browsing your wishlist.
Many sites including LibraryThing, Goodreads, etc. allow you to export your book list into an Excel spreadsheet or other format. You can then copy and paste the list of ISBNs into Chango Books and import the books your wishlist.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or problems. Happy trading!

Recently, a glitch in our database caused a small number of requests for books to be handled incorrectly. If you received a request for one of your books, but the link included in the email was broken OR if you made a request, but the site returned an error then you have been affected. I have already sent a message to everyone who was affected, but I'm posting here just in case I missed someone.
To resolve the problem, if you received an error after requesting a book, please make the request again. If you received an email that one of your books was requested, but the included link is broken please ignore the message and wait for the requestor to make another request.
If you have any questions or problems please let me know. Thank you for using our site and sorry about the inconvenience.
