Idea Add books by ASIN New
Hi, I'm new here, but really liking it so far. Have quite a few ideas about the site, but I will try to break them down easily.
About only being able to add books by ISBN -
I have had some luck adding books which don't have an ISBN on their publication page by looking up the title on bookfinder.com and then poking around until I find an ISBN that seems to be a comparable match. Usually that manages to pull up the page to add the book to my inventory. But this is not a very easy method for most people.
I am not sure what agreements this site has with Amazon, but it would be easier to add books without an ISBN by using Amazon's ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number). People would just need to search for their particular book on Amazon, scroll down to the book details, and then copy and paste that number into the search bar here.
I would far prefer this system over the "enter all the information about your ISBN-less book" system on paperbackswap, especially when I know that all the information is already sitting on Amazon (causing me to copy-paste over a dozen times, so annoying).
Course, for this you may need to remind people to make sure that author, title, edition, and publication date all match. But then, even by ISBN you sometimes get hardcover instead of paperback or vice versa. At least with the option of ASIN I could go and pull the Amazon page that more closely describes the book I have in my hands than trying to correct faulty ISBN information in the condition notes.
